Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Add an extra layer of security to your account with 2FA

4 min readUpdated Jan 15, 2026

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security. Even if someone gets your password, they can't access your account without the second factor.

What Is 2FA?

2FA requires two things to log in:

  • Something you know: Your password
  • Something you have: Your phone, running an authenticator app
  • This makes your account much more secure.

    Setting Up 2FA

ClapDiet uses an authenticator app. There is no SMS option — text messages can be

intercepted or redirected, so they are not offered as a second factor here.

  • Download an authenticator app if you don't have one:
  • - Google Authenticator

    - Authy

    - Microsoft Authenticator

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security
  • Find Two-Factor Authentication and click Set up
  • Scan the QR code with your app — or, if you can't scan, copy the key shown
  • underneath and enter it manually

  • Type the 6-digit code your app is showing and click Confirm
  • Save the backup codes you are given, then click I've saved them
  • Using 2FA to Log In

  • Enter your email and password as usual
  • You'll be asked for a verification code
  • Open your authenticator app
  • Enter the 6-digit code
  • Backup Codes

Enabling 2FA gives you a set of 16-character backup codes. Each works once, and

they are your way back in if you lose the phone with your authenticator on it.

Important: they are shown once and never again — save them before you leave

    that screen. You might:

  • Print them and store in a secure place
  • Save them in a password manager
  • Store them in an encrypted file
  • Lost Access to 2FA?

    If You Have Backup Codes

  • On the login page, enter your email and password
  • When asked for the verification code, type one of your backup codes into the
  • same box — the login form accepts either

  • Once logged in, turn 2FA off and set it up again on your new device, which
  • also issues a fresh set of backup codes

If You Don't Have Backup Codes

  • Contact support
  • We'll verify your identity
  • We'll help you regain access
  • This process takes 24-48 hours for security reasons
  • Disabling 2FA

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security
  • Find Two-Factor Authentication and click Turn off
  • Enter your password to confirm
  • We recommend keeping 2FA enabled for maximum security.
