How to sign in using your Google or GitHub account

3 min readUpdated Jan 15, 2026

ClapDiet supports signing in with your Google or GitHub account for faster, passwordless access.

Signing In with Google

  • Go to the login page
  • Click Continue with Google
  • Select your Google account
  • Grant the requested permissions
  • You're logged in!
  • First Time with Google?

If this is your first time, we'll create a new ClapDiet account linked to your Google account.

    Already Have an Account?

If you previously created an account with the same email address:

  • Your accounts will be linked automatically
  • All your data will be there
  • You can still log in with your password if you prefer
  • Signing In with GitHub

  • Go to the login page
  • Click Continue with GitHub
  • Log in to GitHub (if not already logged in)
  • Authorize ClapDiet to access your basic profile
  • You're in!
  • What We Access

    We only access:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your profile picture
  • We never access your code, repositories, or private data.

    Benefits of Social Login

✅ No new password to remember

    ✅ Faster sign-in

✅ Uses your existing security (like Google's 2FA)

✅ Easy to use across devices

    Unlinking Social Accounts

Unlinking is handled by support rather than from the app. Contact us from the

address on the account and say which provider you want removed.

Note: If you signed up only with a social account, set a password first —

otherwise unlinking would leave you with no way to sign in at all.

Setting a Password for Social Accounts

If you signed up with Google or GitHub and want a password, use the password

reset flow — it sends a link to your email, so it works even though you have no

    current password to enter:

  • Sign out, then click Forgot password? on the login page
  • Enter the email address on your account
  • Open the link we email you
  • Choose your password
  • Now you can log in with either method!

Note: Settings > Privacy & Security can change a password you

already have, which is why it asks for your current one.

    Troubleshooting

    "Email already exists" Error

Your email may already be registered. Try:

  • Logging in with your password instead
  • Using the password reset option
  • "Authorization failed" Error

  • Make sure you're logged into the correct Google/GitHub account
  • Try clearing your browser cache
  • Use an incognito/private window
