How to search and find foods in ClapDiet's database of 300K+ foods

Searching for Foods

ClapDiet has over 300,000 foods in our database. Here's how to find exactly what you're looking for.

Basic Search

On Web

  • Click the Search bar at the top
  • Start typing a food name
  • Results appear as you type
  • Click a food to see details
  • On Mobile

  • Tap Foods in the bottom navigation
  • Tap the search bar
  • Type your food name
  • Tap a result to view details
  • Search Tips

    Be Specific

  • Instead of "chicken," try "grilled chicken breast"
  • Instead of "apple," try "apple raw with skin"
  • Use Brand Names

  • "Cheerios" works for branded cereals
  • "Starbucks latte" finds coffee drinks
  • Try Variations

  • "Spinach" vs "spinach raw" vs "spinach cooked"
  • "Egg" vs "egg fried" vs "egg scrambled"
  • Filtering Results

    By Category

    Click Filters to narrow by:

  • Food group (vegetables, proteins, dairy, etc.)
  • Data source (USDA, branded)
  • Preparation method
  • By Nutrition

    Filter for:

  • Low sodium
  • High protein
  • Low carb
  • Specific nutrient ranges
  • By Diet Compatibility

    Filter for foods that fit:

    Each result shows:

  • Food name and description
  • Serving size
  • Calories per serving
  • Key macros (protein, carbs, fat)
  • Health rating for your conditions (if applicable)
  • Quick Actions

    From search results, you can:

  • ➕ Log it: Add to today's food log
  • ❤️ Favorite: Save for quick access
  • 📁 Add to collection: Organize into custom lists
  • Can't Find a Food?

    Try Different Terms

  • Generic vs brand name
  • Cooked vs raw
  • Full name vs abbreviation
  • Use Barcode Scanning (Mobile)

  • Tap the barcode icon in search
  • Scan the product's barcode
  • Food details appear instantly
  • Browse Categories

    If searching isn't working:

  • Go to Foods > Browse
  • Select a category
  • Explore foods in that category
  • Request a Food

    If it's truly not in our database:

  • Go to Foods > Request Food
  • Enter the food details
  • We'll review and potentially add it
