Shopping Lists

Generate and manage shopping lists from your meal plans

3 min readUpdated Sep 2, 2026

A shopping list is a phone feature, built from a hand-built meal plan. This

article says exactly what it does — and why you will not have seen one yet.

Where it lives

The list belongs to a hand-built plan: one made of real foods from the

database, each with a quantity and a serving, placed on dates. Such a plan's

detail screen carries a Shopping list button that opens the list.

ClapDiet's servers support these plans in full, but neither app yet has a

screen for building one, so no account has one and the button has nowhere to

appear. AI-generated plans are a different thing — their meals are names and

calorie figures, not database foods — and they carry no shopping list.

What the list does, once a plan exists

  • One line per food. Every entry across every day of the plan is gathered, and the same food is added up into a single line with a total amount.
  • Grouped by category. Lines are grouped under the food's category; a food with no category sits under Other.
  • Tick as you shop. Tap a line to tick it off; the progress line at the top counts ticked lines against the total. Ticks are kept on this device only and are not sent to the server, so another phone, or a reinstall, starts clean.
  • There is no export, no print, no sharing and no store integration.
