Mobile App Setup

First launch, the permissions the app asks for, and what it never asks for

3 min readUpdated Sep 3, 2026

Getting set up on a phone, once you have the app. It is not on the stores yet —

Downloading the App explains where

things stand.

First launch

Signing in

  • Open ClapDiet
  • Tap Sign In
  • Enter your email and password, or use Google or Apple sign-in
  • Your account is the same one you use on the web. There is nothing to transfer.

    New account

  • Tap Create Account
  • Complete signup
  • Follow the onboarding questions
  • The permissions it asks for

ClapDiet asks for each of these at the moment you first use the feature behind

it, never in a queue at launch. Declining one disables that feature and nothing

    else.

  • Camera. Scanning the barcode on a packaged food, and photographing a lab
  • report to upload.

  • Photos. Choosing a lab report or a food photo you already have.
  • Notifications. Reminders and alerts — see
  • Notification Settings.

  • Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint. Signing in without your password. The
  • biometric never reaches ClapDiet; your phone reports only pass or fail.

    What it never asks for

  • Your location. ClapDiet requests no location permission and holds no
  • location data. The app used to declare one it never used, alongside a

sentence about local food recommendations that were never built. Both are

    gone.

  • Your microphone. Blocked outright, so no dependency can quietly add it.
  • Apple Health or Google Fit. ClapDiet connects to neither. Weight, water
  • and nutrition are logged in the app. See

    iOS-Specific Features and

    Android-Specific Features.

    Personalisation

    Theme

The app follows your phone's light and dark setting. Change the phone's

appearance and ClapDiet moves with it.

    Home screen

The home screen is not rearrangeable. What it shows follows your diet mode and

what you have logged — there is no widget picker and nothing to drag.

    Getting around quickly

ClapDiet has no home screen widgets, no Siri Shortcuts and no Android app

shortcuts. What does shorten the common paths:

  • Barcode scanning, on the Foods tab: one tap and a scan instead of a
  • search.

  • Biometric sign-in: enable it once under Settings > Security and
  • skip the password after that.

  • Pull down to refresh on your home screen, your labs and your insights.
  • Worth doing once

  • Turn on notifications, if you want reminders at all.
  • Turn on biometric sign-in.
  • Check the timezone on your profile. Reminders, streaks and daily totals are
  • all worked out in your account's timezone, so a wrong one moves the boundary

between one day and the next.
